The Social Security Card, a CPU card product, can record insurance information about maternity, unemployment, work-related injuries, old-age, and medication, functioning both as an identification certificate and an individual account payment tool. The Social Security Card System can be applied to fields like labour and social security, civil affairs, public security, medical insurance, and housing funds.

Hua Hong Group has been devoted to development and promotion of Social Security Card (used initially for medical insurance). The contact CPU card chip SHC 1201, developed and manufactured by the company and its affiliates, has been widely adopted in the Shanghai Social Security Card Project. By the end of 2006, over 12 mln social security cards using the chip had been issued, which creates a demonstrative effect for further promotion of the system throughout China.
